I remember it, it was called Brawl for All (I got the name from Google) Bart Gunn and Dr Death Steve Williams were in it. If I remember right Bart Gunn won it and fought Butterbean at a PPV. Butterbean knocked him out if I remember right.

The tournament was in the summer of 1998. Gunn faced Butterbean at Wrestlemania 15.

The competitors were-
Steve Blackman, Marc Mero, Henry O Godwin, JBL, Savio Vega, Brakkus, Droz, Road Warrior Hawk, Bob Holly, Bart Gunn, Dr. Death, Quebecer Pierre, the Godfather, Dan Severn, Ron Harris, and 2 Cold Scorpio.

JBL, who lost to Gunn in the finals, said that Vince Russo came up with the idea for the tournament after Bradshaw had asked Russo about starting a Hardcore division in the WWF.

Bart Gunn Had a mean Left Hook Knocking out the Godfather & Bradshaw. I remember Steve Blackman Taking down Mero often & Dan Severn was the UFC Champ at the time. Absolutely awful all of it the Fans Hated it. I loved the WWF Hardcore Title when it was defended 24/7 so much fun.

There was a big controversy that the whole thing was set up to debut Dr Death Steve Williams, because he was a mean shooter and they assumed he would win. I think he legit tore a calf during his first match and that was it, he was done.

They offered a $20k purse to the winner to get people to agree to enter, and there was a claim they'd also had to pay it to Steve Williams as he had been promised a torne set up for him to win.
